On Thursday May 11, 2023, Strathmore Real Estate Group broke ground on a mixed-use real estate project which includes a 186-unit apartment complex and redevelopment of the former Kmart and Tom’s Food Market buildings in Acme Township, Michigan. Strathmore also celebrated its successful re-development of the former grocery store with a ribbon cutting for Truly Free Home. Strathmore’s team appreciated the opportunity thank all the individuals, organizations, and community stakeholders that are working hard to transform the former dark big boxes into a community-oriented mixed-use project.
Strathmore, with its Flint-based construction partner E&L Construction Group, is constructing nine family-oriented apartment buildings that will include one, two, and three-bedroom units (186 units total) and carport parking along US-31. The Oak Shore Commons residential project will include the extension of the TART trail along US-31 and a reintroduction of green space on the former parking lot, playgrounds, grilling stations, pathways, and EV charging stations.
Strathmore also celebrated its successful renovation of the former grocery store to make way for the growing Truly Free Home E-commerce retailer, which moved into the facility earlier this year. Truly Free opened its doors to the public this past Thursday by holding a grand opening and open house, in conjunction with the groundbreaking. The retail store – which offers plant-based refillable cleaning and laundry products – will operate Monday-Friday from 11am-2pm.
As for the former K-Mart, Strathmore is currently renovating the 86,479-square-foot Kmart building to ‘Pickle-U’, a state of the art 8-court pickleball club and pro-shop, a Northwind Health and Fitness which is a public gym, a Flex Suites Office Center offering flexible office and meeting space, the headquarters of local nonprofit Grand Traverse Men’s Shed, self-storage, and light warehousing.
